For the first time, Cyperus glaber L. is reported from Spain (Moral de Calatrava, province of Ciudad Real). The plants were previously erroneously ascribed to both Cyperus bellus Kunth and Cyperus rubicundus Vahl. Distinguishing features for these species are compared and some notes on residence status, ecology and habitat of Cyperus glaber in Spain are provided.

A herbarium revision confirmed the presence of three species: Cenchrus echinatus, C. longispinus and C. spinifex (syn.: C. incertus). In the present paper C. echinatus is reported for the first time from Spain and confirmed for Egypt and Israel. C. longispinus, up to present widely confused with C. spinifex, is reported for the first time from Croatia, Greece, Israel and Morocco and furthermore confirmed for France (including Corse) and Italy. Finally, C. spinifex is confirmed for France, Italy and Spain, while records from Greece and Israel proved to be in error for C. longispinus. All three species are much alike and widely confused in the studied area. In some areas (especially in parts of Italy and Israel) two species occur sympatrically, which largely added to the confusion. Main features for their distinction are discussed and a dichotomous key for the identification of the native and non-native species of Cenchrus s.str. in the Mediterranean area is presented.10aGRAMINEAE; CENCHRUS ECHINATUS; CENCHRUS LONGISPINUS; CENCHRUS SPINIFEX; TAXONOMY; CHOROLOGY1 aVerloove, Filip1 aGullón, Enrique, Sánchez uhttp://www.ingentaconnect.com/content/bgbm/will/2012/00000042/00000001/art0000700438nas a2200121 4500008004100000245005800041210005600099300001000155490000700165100002000172700002100192856010300213 2011 eng d00aStudies in Italian Cyperaceae. 2. of genera Cyperus and Eleocharis (Cyperaceae) in the Iberian Peninsula. In this paper
new records are provided for Cyperus aggregatus (2nd record in the province of Huelva, Spain)
and C. serotinus (first report from Andalucia). Cyperus croceus and C. retrorsus are reported
for the first time from the Iberian Peninsula and, apparently, also from Europe. Previous
Spanish records of Cyperus cyperoides turned out to be in error for C. retrorsus. Analogously,
the name Cyperus bellus given as naturalized at the Laguna Chica in Moral de Calatrava (Spain)
has to be changed to a still unidentiffied species of Cyperus. C. esculentus var. macrostachyus
– a distinct American variety – is a naturalized weed of arable land in northeastern Spain.
Finally, part of the collections of Eleocharis flavescens from the Iberian Peninsula are in fact
proved to belong to E. caduca, a weed from the Old World tropics. Genuine Eleocharis
flavescens is here confirmed from Baixo Alentejo (Portugal).10aCyperus10aEleocharis10aIberian Peninsula1 aVerloove, Filip1 aGullón, Enrique, Sánchez uhttp://www.herbmedit.org/flora/20-141.pdf01260nas a2200133 4500008004100000245009000041210007200131300001000203490000700213520076700220100002200987700002001009856009701029 2010 eng d00aCONTRIBUCIÓN AL ESTUDIO DE LAS LEMNÁCEAS DE HUELVA (ANDALUCÍA OCCIDENTAL, ESPAÑA)0 aCONTRIBUCIÓN AL ESTUDIO DE LAS LEMNÁCEAS DE HUELVA ANDALUCÍA OCC a29-370 v303 aSummary. The main dimension of humid areas in Andalucia are present in Huelva province with 54.825 ha (77,39%). This richness and diversity in aquatic environments make possible the location of numerous aquatic plants, and the conservation of emblematic wetlands as Parque Nacional de Doñana, Paraje Natural Marismas del Odiel or Turberas de Las Madres. The distribution of 7 species of the Duckweed Family, present in the Huelva province (Occidental Andalusia, Spain), are studied. Lemna valdiviana Phil., an American species, is presented as a regional novelty for the Andalusian flora, and the known distribution of Wolffia arrhiza (L.) Horkel ex Wimm., Lemna trisulca L. and Spirodela polyrrhiza (L.) Schleind., 3 threatened species from Spain, is extended.1 aGullón, Sánchez1 ade Mera, Galán uhttp://institucional.us.es/revistas/revistas/lagascalia/pdf/numeros/30/Lagascalia%2030-3.pdf00532nas a2200121 4500008004100000245012500041210006900166490000700235100002000242700002200262700002800284856009800312 2010 eng d00aLagarosiphon major (Ridley) Moss (Hydrocharitaceae) naturalizada en la cuenca baja del Guadiana (SW Península Ibérica)0 aLagarosiphon major Ridley Moss Hydrocharitaceae naturalizada en 0 v301 aVerloove, Filip1 aGullón, Sánchez1 aChiscano, J., L. It is more or less widely naturalised in northwestern Italy (provinces of Biella, Novara, Torino and Vercelli) and probably largely overlooked elsewhere as a result of confusion with J. tenuis. Diagnostic features of both species (and other members of the J. tenuis group currently found in Europe, viz. J. anthelatus and J. dudleyi) are critically assessed and an identification key is presented. Taxonomy and nomenclature of J. dichotomus are discussed, especially with regard to the status of J. platyphyllus, and notes on its present distribution in Italy and its ecology are provided. Like J. tenuis, it often grows in valuable natural and seminatural habitats and locally seems to behave like an invasive environmental weed.1 aVerloove, Filip uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/juncus-dichotomus-juncaceae-northwestern-italy-xenophyte-new-europe01322nas a2200205 4500008004100000022001600041245004700057210004700104300000800151490000600159520072900165653001800894653002500912653002500937653002200962653001300984653002000997100002001017856007901037 2010 eng d a1989‐864900aJournal Management of Biological Invasions0 aJournal Management of Biological Invasions a1-50 v13 aMisidentifications are an important but neglected problem in studies on plant invasions. This review shows how taxonomic education of staff and stakeholders is of great importance for correctly assessing threats provoked by alien plant species in field and literature based studies. Four randomly chosen recent examples (Digitaria violascens, Eleocharis pellucida, Juncus dichotomus and Vicia dalmatica) from Europe demonstrate that, as a result of an initial erroneous identification and/or confusion with similar harmless species, potentially noxious environmental weeds have been able to become fully naturalised. After its introduction in Europe, it took a long time before it was recognised, and later confusion lingered on, in part because the variability of E. muricata was not sufficiently taken into account in keys and descriptions. In the present paper, the difference between E. crus-galli and E. muricata is discussed, and the variability of E. muricata is illustrated. Belgian herbarium specimens labelled E. crus-galli and E. muricata have been revised. Since 1887 (year of the first collection) E. muricata var. microstachya Wiegand has gradually spread and is now locally naturalised and abundant, whereas var. muricata is only known as a rare casual.10aaliens10aBelgium10aEchinochloa muricata10aPoaceae1 aHoste, Ivan uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/naturalisation-history-echinochloa-muricata-belgium-notes-its-identity-and-morphological-000437nas a2200121 4500008004100000245005900041210005800100260001100158300001000169490000700179100002100186856010800207 2010 eng d00aTulipa sylvestris, een stinsenplant met onkruidallures0 aTulipa sylvestris een stinsenplant met onkruidallures c4/2010 a24-250 v981 aSLEMBROUCK, Juul uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/tulipa-sylvestris-een-stinsenplant-met-onkruidallures00555nas a2200121 4500008004100000245012800041210006900169300000800238490000700246100002200253700001400275856014400289 2010 eng d00aDeux Eleocharis (Cyperaceae) nouveaux pour la flore belge: E. austriaca et E. obtusa au Camp d’Elsenborn (Haute-Ardenne).0 aDeux Eleocharis Cyperaceae nouveaux pour la flore belge E austri a1-50 v981 aLambinon, Jacques1 aR., Mause uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/deux-eleocharis-cyperaceae-nouveaux-pour-la-flore-belge-e-austriaca-et-e-obtusa-au-camp-d00472nas a2200109 4500008004100000245008500041210006900126300001000195490001000205100001700215856013000232 1984 eng d00aJuncus foliosus Desf., nieuw voor de Belgische flora in Genk (Limburg, België).0 aJuncus foliosus Desf nieuw voor de Belgische flora in Genk Limbu a59-600 v29-301 aVannerom, H. uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/juncus-foliosus-desf-nieuw-voor-de-belgische-flora-genk-limburg-belgi%C3%AB00512nas a2200109 4500008004100000245011200041210006900153300000900222490000700231100002000238856014400258 1997 eng d00aJuncus canadensis en Rhynchospora fusca, onvrijwillige (her-) introductie in het Vlaams district (België).0 aJuncus canadensis en Rhynchospora fusca onvrijwillige her introd a7-110 v671 aStieperaere, H. uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/juncus-canadensis-en-rhynchospora-fusca-onvrijwillige-her-introductie-het-vlaams-district01129nas a2200133 4500008004100000245007600041210006900117260001100186300000900197490000700206520063800213100002000851856012400871 2006 eng d00aCyperus eragrostis (Cyperaceae): historiek en huidige status in België0 aCyperus eragrostis Cyperaceae historiek en huidige status in Bel c7/2006 a7-110 v893 aCyperus eragrostis (Cyperaceae): history and current status in Belgium. Lam., once a rare South American ephemeral alien in Belgium, seems to have recently become naturalised.
After recurring records of, often, long-persisting individuals (especially from the 199O's onwards), a large
and apparently naturalised colony was discovered in 2002 in Evergem, north of Ghent (province of East-Flanders). The species' history in Belgium is drawn and special attention is paid to recent records. Ecological data (incl. a phytosociological relevé) and original illustrations, based on herbarium specimens, are included.1 aVerloove, Filip uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/cyperus-eragrostis-cyperaceae-historiek-en-huidige-status-belgi%C3%AB00525nas a2200109 4500008004100000245011000041210007000151300001000221490000700231100002200238856015500260 2006 eng d00aPanicum capillare subsp. barbipulvinatum dans un champ de maïs de L'Oesling (Grand-Duché de Luxembourg)0 aPanicum capillare subsp barbipulvinatum dans un champ de maïs de a22-230 v891 aLambinon, Jacques uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/panicum-capillare-subsp-barbipulvinatum-dans-un-champ-de-ma%C3%AFs-de-loesling-grand-duch%C3%A9-de-000494nas a2200121 4500008004100000245008100041210007000122260001200192300001000204490000700214100002000221856013100241 2006 eng d00aTwee nieuwe stadsgrassen in België: Bromus madritensis en Polypogon viridis0 aTwee nieuwe stadsgrassen in België Bromus madritensis en Polypog c12/2006 a24-260 v901 aVerloove, Filip uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/twee-nieuwe-stadsgrassen-belgi%C3%AB-bromus-madritensis-en-polypogon-viridis00445nas a2200121 4500008004100000245006400041210006200105260001200167300000700179490000700186100002100193856010900214 2006 eng d00aRostraria cristata, een nieuwkomer in het stedelijk milieu?0 aRostraria cristata een nieuwkomer in het stedelijk milieu c12/2006 a270 v901 aAllemeersch, Luc uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/rostraria-cristata-een-nieuwkomer-het-stedelijk-milieu00945nas a2200133 4500008004100000245007400041210007000115260001100185300001000196490000700206520044900213100002400662856012500686 2007 eng d00aHerkenning van de vier in België voorkomende drijvende Lemna-soorten0 aHerkenning van de vier in België voorkomende drijvende Lemnasoor c5/2007 a16-200 v913 aIdentification of floating Lemna species in Belgium. data. Eight taxa are currently regarded as, at least locally, naturalized in the Iberian Peninsula,
Macaronesia, France (incl. Corsica) and/or Italy : Jarava ambigua (Speg.) Peñail., J. brachychaeta

(Trin.) Barkworth and N. trichotoma (Nees) Arechav. Nassella mucronata (Kunth) R. W. Pohl
has not been confirmed, all actual European populations being definitely ascribable to the closely
related N. neesiana. Particular attention is paid to the confusion of both taxa in Europe and useful
diacritic features for their distinction are discussed. Only two taxa have become more or less
widespread to date (N. neesiana and N. trichotoma), both being present respectively in all or
nearly all investigated countries. Two further taxa (Jarava brachychaeta and J. caudata) also tend
to increase. Jarava ambigua (confused with J. brachychaeta in S-France) is cited for the first
time as a naturalized alien in Europe. All taxa but Nassella tenuissima (which is an escape from
cultivation) are believed to have been introduced unintentionally ; all are of American origin.
Each taxon is described and a dichotomous key, original line drawings of all species’ anthecia and
further chorological, nomenclatural, taxonomic and ecological data are provided.10achorology10aEurope10aidentification10aJarava10aNassella10aneophytes10ataxonomy1 aVerloove, Filip uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/synopsis-jarava-ruiz-pav-and-nassella-e-desv-stipa-l-sl-poaceae-stipeae-southwestern-europe00647nas a2200169 4500008004100000245010600041210006900147260001200216300001200228490000700240653002500247653001000272653001900282653001400301100002000315856014200335 2010 eng d00aStudies in Italian Cyperaceae 1. En outre, le mode d'entretien des bords de route favorise l'existence de la niche écologique déjà mentionée.1 aRobbrecht, Elmar uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/sorghum-halepense-l-pers-uitbreiding-gent-en-omgeving-oost-vlaanderen-belgi%C3%AB01502nas a2200133 4500008004100000245006800041210006700109260001200176300000900188490001000197520102400207100002301231856011401254 1981 eng d00aVegetaties met Juncus canadensis J. This study describes a few sites of Juncus canadensis in the Campine district, a species that was first found in Belgium in 1975. Now there are known about twenty sites, all of them in the Campine district. The stands of Juncus canadensis in Belgium are not typical. The species seems to appear in stands with rather different characters of acidity, moisture and nutritional ecology. The most constant environment of Juncus canadensis is the littoral area of slightly eutrophic, disturbed fens and lakes.
The following types of marsh vegetation with Juncus canadensis may be distinguished:
— vegetations with Littorellion-eleaients such as Eleocharis multicaulis, Scirptis fluitans and Hypericum elodes.
— marsh vegetations with Molinia caerulea, Junais bulbosus, J. effusus, Hydrocotyle vulgaris, Carex rostrata, Drepanocladus fluitans and Sphagnum spp.
— acid bog vegetations: Sphagno-Rhynchosporetum albae in Erica-vegetations.1 aVan Straaten, Dick uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/vegetaties-met-juncus-canadensis-j-gay-ex-laharpe-de-kempen00356nas a2200121 4500008004100000245003200041210003200073300000700105490000700112100001800119700001800137856007900155 1978 eng d00aArum italicum in de polders0 aArum italicum in de polders a310 v101 aVanhecke, Leo1 aRammeloo, Jan uhttps://alienplantsbelgium.myspecies.info/content/arum-italicum-de-polders00664nas a2200133 4500008004100000245007000041210006900111260001100180300001000191490000600201520019100207100001300398856011900411 1978 eng d00aVulpia Ciliata Dum. sur un Terril De Charbonnage dans le Borinage0 aVulpia Ciliata Dum sur un Terril De Charbonnage dans le Borinage c2/1978 a20-210 v93 aVutpia ciliata DUM. op een steenberg in de Borinage.
