Allium macleanii

Allium macleanii Baker (Afghanistan) – A very rare and probably ephemeral escape from cultivation or throw-out. Recorded in 2014 in Destelbergen.
Allium macleanii is sometimes considered conspecific with A. giganteum Regel. Both are the only members of subgenus Melanocrommyum, section Compactoprason R.M. Fritsch, subsection Erectopetala F.O. Khass. Yellowish-green and more or less shining leaves, moderately dense inflorescences, lanceolate tepals with subacute tips, and relatively darker filaments (not paler than the tepals) separate A. macleanii from small plants of A. giganteum (Fritsch 2016). The single Belgian record seems to belong to A. macleanii whereas A. giganteum has been claimed from Germany (Dickoré & al. 2012).
