Allium scorodoprasum

Allium scorodoprasum L. (E and C-Eur.) – A locally naturalized but possibly decreasing alien, known at least since 1925 (Profondeville). At present still known from ‘De Wateringen’ near Neerpelt (at least since 1956). Still present and apparently slightly more widely dispersed in Wallonia, especially in the valley of river Meuse (Ile-de-Dave, Dinant, formerly also at Profondeville, Annevoie, Yvoir). Probably gone in the valley of river Vesdre near Chaudfontaine but scattered locations elsewhere in Wallonia (Beloeil, Vaulx, Mariembourg,… often on former railway tracks; see also Duvigneaud & Saintenoy-Simon 1998).
The origin of the Belgian populations is diverse. The Walloon populations are probably garden escapes. In Neerpelt Allium scorodoprasum was introduced with Alpine grass seed, along with several other Central European species (Campanula rhomboidalis, Cirsium rivulare,…).
