Amaranthus hypochondriacus

10. Amaranthus hypochondriacus L. (syn.: A. hybridus subsp. hybridus var. erythrostachys Moq., A. hybridus subsp.hypochondriacus (L.) Thell.) (N-Am.) – A rather frequently cultivated ornamental and quite often seen from discarded garden waste on dumps but always ephemeral. Perhaps first documented from Gent in 1857 (without further details).

Often confused with the more tropical Amaranthus cruentus but much commoner in Belgium, in cultivation as well as in the wild.
