Amaranthus standleyanus

16. Amaranthus standleyanus Parodi ex Covas (S-Am.) – A regular but always ephemeral alien, known since 1903 (Andrimont). Formerly exceptionally seen as a wool alien in the Vesdre valley. Nowadays usually associated with cereals and birdseed. Most often found on dumps, unloading quays, wasteland or along road verges. Sometimes abundant and repeatedly seen at some locations, for instance in the 1990’s in the port of Roeselare (Verloove & Vandenberghe 1993) and in the 1960-1970’s in the surroundings of Turnhout (mostly on dumps).
