17. Amaranthus thunbergii Moq. (Afr.) – A regular but ephemeral and much decreasing alien. First seen between 1857 and 1860 on waste land near the railway station of Gent. Subsequently frequently recorded as a wool alien in the Vesdre valley near Verviers, at least between 1889 and 1958 (and rather abundantly so in some years). Records outside this area seem to be very scarce and are mostly confined to dumps (without obvious vector of introduction). Observed, for instance, in Jambes (Namur) in 1955, Kessel-Lo in 1957 and Turnhout in 1975.
