Blitum nuttallianum

Blitum nuttallianum Schult. (syn.: Monolepis nuttalliana (Schult.) E. Greene, M. chenopodioides Moq., incl. M. trifida Schrad.) (N-Am.) – A very rare and ephemeral alien. Recorded in the 19th century without further details. Recently seen as a grain alien in the port of Antwerpen (unloading quay near Albertkanaal in Merksem) in 1994 (Verloove & Vandenberghe 1995).

There are relatively few other European records. Most are perhaps from Scandinavia (Uotila 2001). Furthermore also recorded in the British Isles (Clement & Foster 1994), the Netherlands and the Czech Republic (Aellen 1960; as Monolepis trifida), mostly with grain or wool.
