Cannaceae

Cannaceae

The Cannaceae family is originally native to tropical and subtropical areas in the Americas. All species from Africa as well as from Asia have been derived from plants, rhizomes or seeds that have been imported from the Neotropics (Maas-van de Kamer & Maas 2008, Prince 2010). The family is most closely related to Marantaceae and these are members of the order Zingiberales. The family only counts a single genus, Canna.
