Chamaenerion dodonaei

Chamaenerion dodonaei (Vill.) Schur (syn.: Epilobium dodonaei Vill., E. rosmarinifolium Haenke, Chamerion dodonaei (Vill.) Holub) (C- and SE-Eur., SW-As.) – A very rare but apparently slightly increasing, locally naturalized alien. Discovered in 1992 in a small, abandoned chalk pit in Jemelle near Rochefort. This population appears to be well-established (+ 100 plants by 2008) but slightly decreased lately as a result of renewed industrial activities. Jacob & Remacle (2001) subsequently added two new localities: a small but stable population on rough ground (steel scrap) in Aubange (since 1998) and a second locality in Jemelle (near an industrial plant, about 600 m away from the known locality). In Aubange Chamaenerion dodonaei was still present in 2012 (comm. A. Remacle) but does not seem to expand. In Jemelle, on the contrary, this new population very likely originated from the oldest known Belgian population and seems to indicate a slight, local expansion. Moreover, in 2011 a third population was discovered in the very same area (http://waarnemingen.be/waarneming/view/55289051).
