Lamprocapnos

Lamprocapnos Endl.

Lamprocapnos is a monospecific segregate genus formerly included in Dicentra. Its only species, Lamprocapnos spectabilis (old-fashioned bleeding-heart or Venus's car), is originally native in eastern Asia but widely cultivated as an ornamental in many temperate regions of the world.

Molecular studies demonstrated that Lamprocapnos represent a distinct lineage and thus should be segregated from Dicentra (Lidén & al. 1997). This classification is now widely accepted by most authors although the genus is omitted (doubtlessly in error) by Mabberley (2008). More recent molecular studies within Fumarieae (see Pérez-Gutiérrez & al. 2012) did not focus on Dicentra and related genera.
