Limnobium laevigatum

Limnobium laevigatum (Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) Heine  (syn.: Limnobium stoloniferum (G. Mey.) Griseb., Hydromystria laevigata (Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) Hunz., Salvinia laevigata Humb. & Bonpl. ex Willd.) (Mexico, S-Am., Antilles) – An exceptional and probably ephemeral escape or throw-out. Several small populations (with at least one hundred individuals) were discovered in a riverlet (Molenbeek) in Ganshoren in 2013.

Given its reputation as a troublesome aquatic weed the species was removed shortly after its discovery (although it is rather unlikely that Limnobium could survive western European winters).
