Verbesina L.
Verbesina is a New World genus of ca. 150-200 species. Most species are confined to warm-temperate to (sub-) tropical regions. Three or four species are sometimes cultivated for ornament in Europe (Brown 2000; Jäger & al. 2008).
- Plant perennial, tall (100-200 cm). Ligular florets less than 10 (usually 6-8). Internodes winged === 1. Verbesina alternifolia
- Plant annual, smaller (rarely exceeding 50 cm). Ligular florets more numerous (usually 12-15). Internodes not winged === 2. V. encelioides
