Vicia assyriaca

Vicia assyriaca Boiss. (SW-As.) – An exceptional and ephemeral alien. Recorded only once in a field with Vicia sativa in 1960 in Zelzate.

This species and Vicia hyrcanica and V. noeana (all seen as grain and seed aliens in Belgium) belong with a taxonomically very complex assemblage (Vicia section Hypechusa (Alef.) Aschers. et Graebn.; see Maxted & Douglas 1997). According to Davis & Plitmann (1970) Vicia assyriaca is connected by transitional forms with Vicia noeana.
