Molluginaceae

Molluginaceae is a family of ca. 100 species, mostly native in warm-temperate and tropical regions of the world (Mabberley 2008). None is native in Belgium but two genera (Glinus L. and Mollugo) have been recorded as aliens.

The taxonomic placement of Molluginaceae was long controversial. It was long included in Aizoaceae and was accommodated for some time in Nyctaginaceae and Phytolaccaceae as well. Recent molecular studies (APG III 2009) demonstrated that it is best accepted as a family of its own.

Additional alien: Glinus lotoides L. (Medit., wool alien).
