(incl. Asphodelaceae, Hemerocallidaceae)
Recent molecular phylogenetic studies (APGIII 2009) support the recognition of a broadly circumscribed family Xanthorrhoeaceae (including Asphodelaceae and Hemerocallidaceae).
Species from several genera are cultivated as ornamentals and two out of these have been recorded as escapes in Belgium.
1 Inflorescence cymose, lax. Flowers rarely more than 20, funnel-shaped with perianth ca. 70-100 mm long, the lobes much longer than the tube === Hemerocallis
Inflorescence a dense and narrow raceme. Flowers very numerous, tubular with perianth ca. 25-35 mm long, the tube much longer than the lobes === Kniphofia
Additional alien: Asphodelus tenuifolius Cav. (Medit., wool and grain alien).
