Clematis recta

Clematis recta L. (C Eur., As.) – A very rare escape from cultivation. First documented from 1834 in Habay-la-Vieille. Formerly naturalized in a single locality (Fraipont) where its presence was confirmed at least between 1936 and 1965 (Le Pas 1965). In this locality C. recta grew in abundance on a north-facing slope close to the cemetery, from where it probably escaped. The plants grew on the verge of a railway siding and probably disappeared after infrastructural works. It was furthermore documented from Heusy, also in the valley of river Vesdre.
